Nearly two years ago world renowned magician David Copperfield was dragged into the media spotlight for all the wrong reasons as allegations of sexual assault on a young aspiring model surfaced.

The David Copperfield assault allegations were denied from outset by the star. The claims centre around a three night stay the young woman, who cannot be named at present, had on the star’s private Bahaman island in 2007. She claims that she was lured there only to find herself alone with the entertainer who forced her to perform sexual acts against her will. On the 27th of July the statute of limitations on the claims was set to run out, and so the woman filed a federal lawsuit against the star.

The David Copperfield lawsuit has prompted the performer to release a public statement declaiming the allegations as preposterous and absurd. ‘She came to the island because she wanted to – no one lied to her – and she could have left the island on her own at any time’ he said in the August 19 statement. He further states that the woman is a compulsive liar ‘incapable of telling the truth’. ‘The notion that this woman was trapped on the island is absurd.  There are telephones everywhere throughout the island that allow guests to call anyone in the world, including “911’ he goes on to say.

As yet no criminal charges have been laid, with the US attorney’s office still looking over the claims when the lawsuit was filed.
